Guarding the Gift of Sabbath- Embracing Yah's Rest Without Distractions

 Resisting distractions on the Sabbath

Sermon Title -Guarding the Gift of Sabbath

Introduction -Shalom, family! Today, as we gather here at WBJMinistries, I want us to reflect on a gift so precious and divine, the Sabbath day—a day set apart, a sanctuary in time, designed by Yah for His people. It is a day when Yah invites us to step back from the noise of the world, to sit in His presence, and to let our spirits be filled. Yet, we know that the enemy of our soul would love nothing more than to fill this holy day with distractions.

We read in the Halaleyah Scriptures, "Remember the Sabbath day, to qodesh it. Six days you labour, and shall do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of Yah, your Elohim. You do not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates" Shemoth-(Exodus 20:8-10). And in the traditional Bible, this is echoed in the words, "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy..." (Exodus 20:8-10, KJV).

These passages are not just reminders to rest—they are a call to worship, to set apart all that would pull us from Yah. They are an invitation to a sacred space of reverence, of love, and focus on our Creator.

Main Message-In our fast-paced world, we are constantly bombarded by demands on our time and energy. But Yah, in His infinite wisdom, designed the Sabbath as a time when we should intentionally put these distractions away. Here at WBJMinistries, we emphasize the importance of this obedience, not just for tradition’s sake but because of the deep, soul-renewing relationship it fosters between us and Yahusha.

The Halaleyah Scriptures reveal a powerful truth when Yahusha said, "Come to Me, all you who labour and are burdened, and I shall give you rest" MattithYahu-(Matthew 11:28). This rest is not just physical—it is a spiritual renewal that is essential to our walk. When we chase distractions on the Sabbath, we are missing out on this rest. We are robbing our spirits of the rejuvenation they need.

The Nature of Distractions -Distractions are subtle. They don’t always appear in the form of work; sometimes, they come dressed as entertainment, as a notification on our phones, or even as worries that creep into our minds. These distractions keep us away from that place of stillness, from hearing Yah's voice. And each time we give in to them, we’re saying, “This moment, this thing, is more important than my time with Yah.”

Consider the traditional text from(Tellihim )Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am Elohim...” The Halaleyah Scriptures expand on this as well, reminding us that Yah’s presence is not found in busyness or chaos but in the stillness of a soul that seeks Him. This day is Yah’s gift to us—a time to press pause on everything else and to realign our spirits with His divine purpose.

A Call to Realign -WBJMinistries calls on each one of us to realign with this holy command, to sanctify the Sabbath by pushing away distractions and allowing the fullness of Yah’s presence to fill us. This Sabbath, let us recommit ourselves to Yah and ask Him to help us silence the distractions that compete for our hearts. Let us turn off the "I must get this done" or "The To Do List" mindset with Shopping or Errands; Family or Social Commitments; Household Chores; Personal Stressors and Worry; Social Media and Entertainment, close the door to all unnecessary concerns, and sit before Yah as His children, hungry for His word, thirsty for His wisdom, and yearning for His rest.

Closing: As we close, remember that the Sabbath is a reflection of Yah’s perfect peace. This is the day He set apart so that we might set ourselves apart with Him. The distractions will always be there, but Yah’s call is greater, His peace deeper, and His love for us more profound than anything this world can offer.

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who stays in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit. Because without Me, you are able to do naught” Yohanan-(John 15:5, Halaleyah Scriptures). This is what we carry into the Sabbath: an understanding that, without Yahusha, nothing is fruitful, nothing is meaningful.

So, on this day, let us honor Him by giving our full attention, our undivided hearts, and our praise. WBJMinistries stands with you in this commitment to make the Sabbath sacred once again.

May we all find peace and restoration as we embrace the Sabbath and stand firm against distractions, holding tight to Yah’s loving command.
